Read each clue carefully. Complete each checkpoint accurately based on the description.  You must complete 9 out of the 10 checkpoints.  Checkpoint #10 is mandatory (cannot be your skip), and will need to be completed last, otherwise checkpoints can be completed in any order throughout the race.

Each checkpoint has a set of validation points below the clue that we will confirm for every submission.  Submit your completed clues to our Race Headquarters throughout the race via your Team Bonfyre and we will notify you quickly of the status using one of these simple responses:

VERIFIED = everything is completed correctly

CODE 1 = you are not at the correct location

CODE 2 = all of the requirements were not met

CODE 3 = all team members were not visible

Our HQ will review your submission almost instantly.  You should see your response very quickly but you do not need to wait around for it, especially if you are confident that you completed the checkpoint correctly. Teams need to stay together throughout the race from one checkpoint to another and each team member (and their body markings when possible) should be visible in every submission unless otherwise noted.

If you have a race-related question during the race you can submit it through your Team Bonfyre.  We will respond quickly and provide you with the information you need as long as it doesn't impact your ability to solve the clue.

We have carefully scouted and vetted every checkpoint but cities are a constantly changing beast so if a checkpoint is inaccessible or you're not able to complete the requirements for any reason let us know right away and we will adjust the requirements if needed and verify accordingly.

Checkpoint #1

*This checkpoint will be closing at 2:00pm so unless you want it to be your skip you'll need to arrive before then!

Located less than 2 blocks from the Access, finding this checkpoint shouldn't make your head "Spin".  Completing it though, will Ultimately take some skills.  This is your chance to meet a pro athlete here in Philly and catch a pass they throw!  Get your team to the open area adjacent to the golden memorial shown below, find the pro athlete stationed there, and catch a "hammer" they throw to your team.  Once you successfully complete the challenge take a picture with your entire team and either the athlete (if they're not busy throwing to other teams), or with the object you caught.

There will be staff on site to guide you in the challenge.  If other teams are at the checkpoint at the same time as you, the athlete will rotate throws to each team as quickly as possible.  Everyone on your team can attempt to catch the "hammer", but only one racer needs to successfully catch it. Spread out if needed, but don't attempt to snag a throw made to another team or it won't count.  Our staff on site will be the deciding factor in whether your team has successfully made a clean catch of a throw intended for your team.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified location and completed the specified challenge

- Either the pro athlete is included in your team picture (if they're not busy throwing to other teams) OR the object your team caught is clearly visible in the picture

Checkpoint #2

Within the popular Square that was once used for storing gun powder during the American Revolution, and shares a name with the bridge found directly to it's East, stands a memorial dedicated to some of Philly's greatest heroes.  This memorial is the only one in a major US city that honors these two types of heroes in one place. With the anniversary of 9/11 this week, a memorial like this reminds us all that these heroes put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe.  Find this memorial and as a sign of respect take a picture of your team all making heart shapes with your hands while the memorial is visible in the background.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Specified memorial is clearly visible

Checkpoint #3

So many possible locations for this checkpoint, but none of them are guaranteed to help you complete this one. Find any vehicle on the ROOFTOP LEVEL of any multi-level parking garage and take a picture of it with your entire team.  You will most likely need to take a selfie, but make sure your picture shows enough of the background that we can verify you're on the rooftop level (open air above) of the parking garage, and you are next to a vehicle.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Your team is clearly on the rooftop level (open air above you) of a multi-level parking garage

- A vehicle (that's able to be driven) is parked nearby on the rooftop level and clearly visible

Checkpoint #4

One of the most iconic scenes in Philly's cinematic history almost included a dog named Butkus being carried by the lead character. Thankfully the scene was revised and instead the moment was captured by one of the first steadicam shots ever.

As a team, count or figure out the number of "escaleras" (if the movie had been filmed in Spain) it would take to get from the base of this location to where the character ends up at the end of the scene.  Once you think you have the correct number take a picture of your entire team at the spot where the lead character stands at the end of the famous scene (with the city in the background), and submit the number in your Team Bonfyre comment thread.  As a kind gesture we will give you a 2 "escalera" plus or minus margin of error (you're welcome).

You will only get 3 total guesses for the number, so if you get it wrong 2 times then your 3rd guess better be correct or this checkpoint becomes blocked and will need to be your skip!

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified spot of the specified location, and the city is visible in the background

- Up to 3 submissions for the correct number (within 2 "escaleras" plus/minus) of actual "escaleras" from the base of the location to where the character ends up at the end of the scene. After the 3rd incorrect submission the checkpoint becomes blocked for your team and will need to be your skip

Checkpoint #5

Philly is the birthplace of so much good music, from jazz, to hip hop.  Philadelphia artists such as Chubby Checker and Frankie Avalon helped shape early Rock and Roll, while the Philly-based TV show American Bandstand had a huge impact on popular music.  Since then, countless artists have come from this area and many of them have been honored in a permanent way here in the city.  Listen to the song in the video below, which is a cover of a well-known Philly-based band's hit single. Once you have identified the artists that initially recorded this song, take a picture of your entire team with either of the 2 bronze plaques honoring these artists, which are found embedded in the sidewalk outside of Philly's oldest performance venue. Make sure the plaque is legible in your picture, or submit a picture of your team at the correct location and another of the plaque so our Race HQ can verify it.

- 1 picture (or multiple pictures if needed), all team members clearly visible

- Either of the 2 bronze plaques honoring the specified artists are visible and clearly legible

Checkpoint #6

It's really easy to get around Philly and find everything you need thanks to most of downtown being on a grid-like system.  To complete this checkpoint you'll need to use some street sense, and maybe a little luck. Take a picture of your entire team with a 3 or 4-digit address on a building or store that has no repeat numbers, and each number is higher numerically than the previous one.  In other words, the second digit is more than the first, the third digit is more than the second, etc.  So if you found an address that was 257 it would be valid, but 429 wouldn't be.  The address 3578 would be valid, but 4892 wouldn't be.  This number needs to be a 3 or 4-digit address on a building or storefront, and not just a random number you find along the way in a sign, phone number, etc.  Take the picture far enough away that we can get a good sense it's a building address, but close enough that the number is clearly legible.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- The 3 or 4-digit building or store address is clearly visible

- The address doesn't have any repeat numbers

- Each number in the address is in ascending order (zero is the lowest possible digit and nine is the highest)

Checkpoint #7

Philly has so many historic buildings, including some that are the first of their kind in the country.  The type of building you need to get to is also the last name of the family in Bel Air that Will Smith moves in with in his classic 90's TV show.  Find the 1st one of these built in the US, which happens to be located here in Philly.  Once there take a video of any two people on your team completing the quarter spin challenge as seen in the video below, while the specified building is clearly visible in the background.  If you are racing solo you will need to find a stranger to spin the quarter while you attempt to stop it with your finger.

Basically, have one teammate (or stranger if you're racing solo) flick a quarter so that it spins on a hard surface somewhere near the specified building (so that the building is visible in the background).  Another teammate will then need to press down on the top of the spinning quarter so that it stops spinning and remains upright.  Remember that Bonfyre only allows up to a 9 second maximum video to be uploaded into your Team Bonfyre, but you can record a much longer video until you successfully complete the challenge and then just trim the video in the Bonfyre app to show the portion when you successfully complete the challenge.

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at specified historic building and it's visible in the background at some point in the video

- Either 2 teammates, or yourself and a stranger (if you're racing solo), complete the quarter spin challenge as shown in the video below and described in the clue above

Checkpoint #8

Our first race ever, which was here in Philly last July was in the middle of a heat wave.  One year later and not much has changed.  Xplore began a fun tradition here in Philly last year that we have continued in cities all across the country, and it involves getting up close and personal with some of the best urban fountains in the country.

To keep our tradition going, this checkpoint is in a park that's so new, you will be some of the first people ever to experience it. Even though it just opened 2 days ago this park is already known as "the city's lively new centerpiece".

Once there, find the water feature shown in the artist rendering below and take a video of each of your teammates doing either a "plank" or sit-ups directly over a nozzle that's actively spraying water, while strangers pour an entire bottle of water on each racer at the same time.  The bottles should be at least 16 ounces, and the entire contents should be poured on you within one 9-second video (the maximum length that can be uploaded to Bonfyre).  Each team member can choose which of the two exercise options they want to do, but the challenge should be completed by all team members at the same time and one bottle should be poured onto each team member while they are also over the spraying fountain. This fountain is on a rotating pattern and at times can either have a very small spray, or a higher and more soaking one, so time it correctly and maybe you won't get as soaked...on one side of your body.

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified water feature in the specified new park

- Each team member in the picture is doing either a plank or sit-ups over a nozzle that's actively spraying water

- An entire bottle of water (at least 16 ounces large) is poured onto each team member by a stranger

Checkpoint #9

This checkpoint can be completed anywhere around the city, and will likely be a good way to refresh your team from the heat and get you to slow your pace and just focus for a few minutes.  Take a picture of your entire team while one soda can per team member (of any brand) is perfectly balanced at an angle as shown in the picture below.  You must have one soda can visible for each racer on your team and all of them must be balanced at an angle, and unsupported (not being held or leaning against anything).

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Soda cans are balanced at an angle (similar to the image below), and are not being held or leaning against something

- Team must complete the challenge using 1 soda can for each racer on your team and all of them must be balanced in the picture at the same time

Checkpoint #10

After you have completed 8 total checkpoints and had them verified by our Race HQ, then this checkpoint will be the final one you complete. The FINISH LINE for the entire race!  The establishment whose name is described by the clue below, and whose address is on Filbert Street, is where you'll need to get to.

Once your team completes your 8th total checkpoint successfully our Race HQ will send you a quick and brief instruction on what your team needs to do at this location.  Once you complete the objective or upload the required submission at this location you will be finished the race and you will instantly receive your finish place and time!  Then you can celebrate with your team, the other fun racers, and recover from your adventure at this after race venue (see details below)!

- All team members present at the Finish

- Team completes the requirement sent by Race HQ
