Read each clue carefully. Complete each checkpoint accurately based on the description.  You must complete 9 out of the 10 checkpoints.  Checkpoint #10 is mandatory (cannot be your skip), and will need to be completed last, otherwise checkpoints can be completed in any order throughout the race.

Each checkpoint has a set of validation points below the clue that we will confirm for every submission.  Submit your completed clues to our Race Headquarters throughout the race via your Team Bonfyre and we will notify you quickly of the status using one of these simple responses:

VERIFIED = everything is completed correctly

CODE 1 = you are not at the correct location

CODE 2 = all of the requirements were not met

CODE 3 = all team members were not visible

Our HQ will review your submission almost instantly.  You should see your response very quickly but you do not need to wait around for it, especially if you are confident that you completed the checkpoint correctly. Teams need to stay together throughout the race from one checkpoint to another and each team member (and their body markings when possible) should be visible in every submission unless otherwise noted.

If you have a race-related question during the race you can submit it through your Team Bonfyre.  We will respond quickly and provide you with the information you need as long as it doesn't impact your ability to solve the clue.

We have carefully scouted and vetted every checkpoint but cities are a constantly changing beast so if a checkpoint is inaccessible or you're not able to complete the requirements for any reason let us know right away and we will adjust the requirements if needed and verify accordingly.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

Checkpoint #1

*This checkpoint will be closing at 2:00pm so unless you want it to be your skip you'll need to arrive before then!

Located only about 8 blocks west of the Access, this fitness facility's name combines the two words described below. Get your team to the building where this business can be found, then head inside the doors labeled with the address "1000" and proceed up the steps to the 3rd floor to the entrance of the fitness facility. Once there, a fitness instructor designated for the race will instruct you on how to complete the challenge.   During the challenge, take a picture or video of your team while you're completing it, or have the instructor do it for you if there aren't any other teams at the checkpoint with you.

*Just a heads up that upon arrival they may check you in using your name or bib number before completing the challenge. This will be a quick process but be sure to follow their instructions to help your team get started quickly.

- 1 picture OR video, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified fitness facility

- Team members are completing the challenge instructed to them by the trainer

Checkpoint #2

The red structure seen below can be found in a park named for a local female political figure who died in a 2006 car crash, and spent her career working to improve the city's affordable housing, day care, and parks (among many other issues).   It can be found just north of where Paul Hewson, the lead singer of a popular Irish band, spray painted a statement about rock and roll during a free concert and later received a graffiti citation for it.  Once you've found the red structure, tap into your Spidey skills and take a picture of your entire team all on top of the structure.

- Team is at the specified park

- Entire team is on the specified red structure (and not just standing next to it)

Checkpoint #3

Get your team to any working fire station around the city. Once there, take a video of your entire team all performing the well-known safety technique taught by those who serve in this field of work, while the fire station is clearly visible in the background.  This safety technique is made up of 3 prominent action words and is often taught to kids, but can be fun for Urban Adventure Racers to practice too!  When performing the technique be sure to shout out the 3 prominent steps so we know you are doing them in the proper order!

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible if possible

- Team is at any working fire station and it is clearly visible and identifiable in the background

- Team members are performing the well-known safety technique

Checkpoint #4

The plaza shown below was recently the last stop on a journey for members of a club that have a lot to celebrate in recent years. The only things in this city with more rings than those guys are trees!  Finding the location marked with a purple pin in the image below shouldn't be too tough, but completing the checkpoint could be a giant task!  Once there, count how many total trees make up the two long sections of trees seen on either side of the purple pin below. There are multiple rows in each of the two sections so be sure to count every tree and add the total from both sides.

Once you think you have the correct number take a picture of your entire team with the large dome-covered building that's adjacent to this plaza clearly visible in the background, and submit the number in your Team Bonfyre comment thread.  As a kind gesture we will give you a plus or minus margin of error of 3 trees (you're welcome).

You will only get 3 total guesses for the number, so if you get it wrong 2 times then your 3rd guess better be correct or this checkpoint becomes blocked and will need to be your skip!

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified plaza and the large dome-covered building is visible in the background

- Up to 3 submissions for the correct number (within 3 trees plus/minus) of total trees in both specified sections. After the 3rd incorrect submission the checkpoint becomes blocked for your team and will need to be your skip

Checkpoint #5

This grueling set of steps shares it's name with an alternative name for a Hazelnut. The top of these steps lead to an iconic San Francisco landmark, and along the multi-section path there's a chance you'd encounter flocks of wild parrots. Fortunately for you, your team does NOT need to climb ALL of the hundreds of steps, but rather find the somewhat hidden starting place at the very bottom.  Once at the lowest point of all the sections of steps take a picture of your team with the long and steep first section of steps clearly visible in the background, AND at least one racer on your team is halfway up the first section in the background. So most of your team will be at the base of the staircase, and at least one racer from your team is halfway up the first section and visible while you take your picture. If you are a solo racer you'll need to take one picture at the base and then one picture of yourself while you're halfway up the first section.

*Be sure to capture enough of the steps and background landscape so that our HQ can verify it for you quickly.

- 1 picture (or 2 if you are racing solo), all team members clearly visible if possible

- Team is at the lowest section of the specified set of steps while taking the picture and the steps are clearly visible in the background

- At least 1 racer from your team is in the background and halfway up the specified section of steps

Checkpoint #6

Cable cars are probably the most iconic symbol of this city.  Their only flaw might be that they have a turning radius of absolutely zero.  Because of that, there are only a few designated spots in the city where they are rotated and spun 180 degrees before heading in the opposite direction.  This challenge is easy to figure out, but timing it perfectly could be the difference in getting ahead of the competition.  Take a video of your entire team AND AT LEAST 2 STRANGERS all loudly cheering for a cable car (and it's driver who's doing all the hard work) as it is actively in the process of turning around.  Loudly chanting "Turn! Turn! Turn!" or some other positive encouragement would surely help the driver get it spun around quickly before any other teams arrive!  Be sure to capture video of the cable car actually turning and a quick glance of your team and the strangers helping you complete the challenge.

*To record a continuous video in the app you'll need to hold down the record button.

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible if possible

- At least 2 strangers are visible and actively joining in with you to cheer for the turning cable car

- Cable car is actively being turned around at one of the specified turnaround locations

Checkpoint #7

The entrance to the magnificent cathedral you need to get to is located on the corner of a street named for a state, and a street that shares it's name with the musician who sings the original version of the song in the video below (click play to watch it).  Once you're at that intersection, take a video of your entire team attempting to run up the entire length of the staircase leading to the church's main entrance within one continuous 9-second video (the maximum length that can be uploaded to Bonfyre).  Once at the top take a moment to admire one of the most beautiful doors in the world.  Made of bronze these intricate doors are a replica of ones found in Florence, and were built during WWII in case the originals were destroyed during the violence.

- 1 video, all team members visible

- Team is at the specified staircase to the main entrance of the cathedral

- Team attempts to run up the entire length of the staircase within one 9-second video (the maximum that can be uploaded to Bonfyre)

Checkpoint #8

The 7 strangers shown below, were picked to live in a house (here in the city), to find out what happens when people stopped being polite, and started getting real.  Their time together opened the nation's eyes to a variety of topics from battling AIDS, to the lifestyle of a bike messenger. The house they occupied sits one block east of a red stretch of road.  Get your team to that red stretch of road and take a picture of your entire team while any RED vehicle is traveling down that road in the background.   Timing will be critical for this challenge not only in waiting for a red vehicle, but snapping the picture at just the right moment so your entire team is in place and the red vehicle is clearly visible in the background.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified stretch of road

- Any red colored vehicle is traveling down that stretch of road in the background and is clearly visible

Checkpoint #9

With the largest Chinatown outside of Asia, and the oldest one in North America, Asian culture is a prominent part of this diverse city. Now we'll see how much influence it has had on each of your team members!  To complete this challenge get your hands on 3 chopsticks per racer and take a picture of your entire team while each racer is holding one of the chopsticks using the other two in your hand (as seen in the image below). The chopstick each racer is holding needs to be held in between the other two and held somewhat vertically (so not horizontally and not laying across the top of the others). The chopstick also needs to be unsupported, meaning it can't be touching any part of your hands or another object.

*Make sure the picture is taken close enough to your team that our Race HQ can verify all requirements are being met.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Each team member is using 3 chopsticks to complete the specified challenge

- Each team member is using a pair of chopsticks to hold a third chopstick somewhat vertically, and unsupported by your hands or another object

Checkpoint #10

(MANDATORY, CANNOT BE YOUR SKIP)

(MUST BE COMPLETED LAST BY YOUR TEAM)

After you have completed 8 total checkpoints and had them verified by our Race HQ, then this checkpoint will be the final one you complete. The FINISH LINE for the entire race!

The venue you need to get to, whose logo is shown below, could likely get hit if the Kung Fu Panda sent a foul ball far enough directly over the Visitors dugout.

Once your team completes your 8th total checkpoint successfully our Race HQ will send you a quick and brief instruction on what your team needs to do at this location.  Once you complete the objective or upload the required submission at this location you will be finished the race and you will instantly receive your finish place and time!  Then if you'd like you can relax with your team, the other fun racers, and recover from your adventure at this after race venue!

- All team members present at the Finish

- Team completes the requirement sent by Race HQ
