Read each clue carefully. Complete each checkpoint accurately based on the description.  You must complete 9 out of the 10 checkpoints.  Checkpoint #10 is mandatory (cannot be your skip), and will need to be completed last, otherwise checkpoints can be completed in any order throughout the race.

Each checkpoint has a set of validation points below the clue that we will confirm for every submission.  Submit your completed clues to our Race Headquarters throughout the race via your Team Bonfyre and we will notify you quickly of the status using one of these simple responses:

VERIFIED = everything is completed correctly

CODE 1 = you are not at the correct location

CODE 2 = all of the requirements were not met

CODE 3 = all team members were not visible

Our HQ will review your submission almost instantly.  You should see your response very quickly but you do not need to wait around for it, especially if you are confident that you completed the checkpoint correctly. Teams need to stay together throughout the race from one checkpoint to another and each team member (and their body markings when possible) should be visible in every submission unless otherwise noted.

If you have a race-related question during the race you can submit it through your Team Bonfyre.  We will respond quickly and provide you with the information you need as long as it doesn't impact your ability to solve the clue.

We have carefully scouted and vetted every checkpoint but cities are a constantly changing beast so if a checkpoint is inaccessible or you're not able to complete the requirements for any reason let us know right away and we will adjust the requirements if needed and verify accordingly.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

Checkpoint #1

Charlotte is so fun even its parking garages are one big puzzle.  Although you don't need to figure out the puzzle today, we recommend you return at some point to attempt it. For now, get to this large structure that houses a popular public market, and sits next to a LYNX stop, and locate any section of the exterior art installment that covers the entire facade of the building.  Then, take a video of your entire team pressing 4 of the "light fins" that make up this art installment, one after the other.  Your team all needs to start at one "fin" and run as a group to each of the other 3, pressing 4 total within a 9 second video (the max video length that can be uploaded to Bonfyre).

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified parking structure and art installment

- Team members all start at one "light fin" and run as a group from one to the next, pressing 4 total within a 9 second video (the max that can be uploaded to Bonfyre)

Checkpoint #2

Many of Charlotte's prominent citizens are buried in this large 72-acre cemetery in the heart of the city.  Some of those buried here include Governor Cameron Morrison, Dr. Annie Alexander (1st female physician in the South), and movie actor Randolph Scott.  Unfortunately finding those graves won't help you, but there are lots of others that will.

This checkpoint will require two pictures for verification.  First, when you arrive take a picture with your team and any sign at the entrance that has the name of the cemetery so we know you're at the correct one. Then, find any grave of a person whose first name is the same as the first name of any of the 4 guys pictured below.  Once you've found one, take a picture of your entire team with the grave clearly visible and legible.

- 2 pictures, all team members clearly visible

- 1st picture is of your team with any sign at entrance of cemetery and it's visible and legible

- 2nd picture is of your team with any grave of a person whose first name is the same as the first name of any of the 4 specified men below and the grave is clearly visible and legible

Checkpoint #3

Get your team to any working fire station around the city. Once there, take a video of your entire team all performing the well-known safety technique taught by those who serve in this field of work, while the fire station is clearly visible in the background.  This safety technique is made up of 3 prominent action words and is often taught to kids, but can be fun for Urban Adventure Racers to practice too!  When performing the technique be sure to shout out the 3 prominent steps so we know you are doing them in the proper order!

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible if possible

- Team is at any working fire station and it is clearly visible and identifiable in the background

- Team members are performing the well-known safety technique

Checkpoint #4

Found about two blocks from the LYNX stop that could also be called "Tasteless", this fitness facility is at the corner of two streets with the same first 3 letters.  The people inside the facility are often found to be holding an "Asana", which today you'll prove can be done outside the building too.  Get your team to this facility and have someone take a picture of your entire team out front of the building while you're all holding the "Tree Asana".  Make sure a sign identifying this business is visible somewhere behind your team so we can verify you're at the correct location.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified fitness facility

- Team members are all holding the "Tree Asana" while the picture is taken

Checkpoint #5

This museum highlights gold mining in NC, as well as the beginnings of the financial institution it's named for.  Inside you'll find a mode of transportation built in Concord, New Hampshire from the mid-19th century and used by many to traverse the country. With an average speed of only 5 mph and a power source that had to be switched out every 12 miles it's no wonder it now belongs in a museum.  Get your team to this mode of transportation inside the museum and have someone take a picture of your entire team all packed inside the replica of this rare antique (the original is off limits for obvious reasons).

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible if possible

- Team is at the specified museum

- Entire team is all inside the specified replica antique mode of transportation

Checkpoint #6

Charlotte has quickly become one of the largest urban bike sharing programs in the Southeast. With over 200 bikes at 24 stations around the city this checkpoint might be one of the easier ones to find, but executing it successfully is a lot tougher. Get your entire team to any of the numerous bike share (aka, B-cycle) stations around the city and take a picture with your team and as many strangers as needed to be sitting on each bike seat at the station and all balancing (with arms and legs outstretched and not touching the ground or the bike) at the same time.   For example, if there are 10 bikes parked at the station you will need your team plus as many strangers as needed to have 10 people sitting on bikes (1 person per bike) and all balancing at the same time so that your arms and legs are not touching the ground or any part of the bike.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- As many strangers as needed to have 1 person sitting on each of the bike seats parked at the station

- Everyone sitting on the bike seats must all be balancing (arms and legs are not touching the bike or the ground) at the same time

Checkpoint #7

Although not named for it, this park shares it's name with the University that was involved in the deadliest sports related tragedy in US history on their way back to campus after a loss to the Eastern Carolina football team. Within this park stands a statue of an iconic leader who sent a telegram (see image below) to followers in Charlotte alerting them that he needed to reschedule his planned trip here.  Charlotte officials received it two days after he sent it, and just hours before he too was tragically killed.   Find his statue in this park and take a picture of your team all giving the peace sign (in honor of what he spent his life striving to achieve for so many), while the statue is clearly visible in the background.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at specified statue and it is clearly visible

Checkpoint #8

This time tomorrow these animals (who are estimated to be worth about $1 billion according to Forbes, and were born in 1995) will be involved in an important event involving some talented birds from the west coast.  Until then you can still get to the popular facility where this event will take place and find large bronze versions of them at the entrances.  Once there, take a video of your entire team singing part of either of the two fight songs you'd traditionally hear at this location, while any of the specified animal statues are clearly visible behind you. The first fight song has traditionally been played before these animals perform, and the second is typically played at the end of a great performance.

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible if possible

- Team is at the specified popular facility and any of the specified bronze statues are clearly visible in the background

- Team members are singing part of either of the two fight songs traditionally sung at this location as described

Checkpoint #9

This challenge is going to either take some luck, or the help of some kind strangers (hopefully lanky strangers).  To complete this challenge take a picture of your entire team, and as many strangers as needed, to create a connected "human chain" (stretch hand in hand) between any two parked cars that are in the color family most commonly labeled with a Hexadecimal Code of "FF0000" (that's 4 zero's).  That code is just a reference, the two parked cars can be any shade of that color.  Please be careful when forming your human chain and avoid stretching across any road where traffic is actively flowing.  Cars are constantly changing parking spots so if you see a chance to complete this challenge you may want to start recruiting strangers help before your opportunity pulls away!

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Team members, and as many strangers as needed, form a connected human chain (outstretched arms) between any two parked cars that are a shade of the specified color.

Checkpoint #10

(MANDATORY, CANNOT BE YOUR SKIP)

(MUST BE COMPLETED LAST BY YOUR TEAM)

After you have completed 8 total checkpoints and had them verified by our Race HQ, then this checkpoint will be the final one you complete. The FINISH LINE for the entire race!

The uptown establishment along North Tryon Street you need to get to (shown below) shares it's name with a phrase some people use when they feel like their life is at it's lowest and most hopeless point.

Once your team completes your 8th total checkpoint successfully our Race HQ will send you a quick and brief instruction on what your team needs to do at this location.  Once you complete the objective or upload the required submission at this location you will be finished the race and you will instantly receive your finish place and time!  Then if you'd like you can relax with your team, the other fun racers, and recover from your adventure at this after race venue!

- All team members present at the Finish
