Read each clue carefully. Complete each checkpoint accurately based on the description.

You must complete 9 out of the 10 checkpoints.  Checkpoint #10 is mandatory (cannot be your skip), and will need to be completed last, otherwise checkpoints can be completed in any order throughout the race.

Our HQ will review your submission almost instantly.  You should see your response very quickly but you do not need to wait around for it, especially if you are confident that you completed the checkpoint correctly.

Teams need to stay together throughout the race from one checkpoint to another and each team member (and their body markings when possible) should be visible in every submission unless otherwise noted.

If you have a race-related question during the race you can submit it through your Team Bonfyre.  We will respond quickly and provide you with the information you need as long as it doesn't impact your ability to solve the clue.

We have carefully scouted and vetted every checkpoint but cities are a constantly changing beast so if a checkpoint is inaccessible or you're not able to complete the requirements for any reason let us know right away and we will adjust the requirements if needed and verify accordingly.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

Checkpoint #1

Legend has it, at least according to the plaque below this statue, that this animal was once found along the nearby river banks.  Besides usually being found in Africa, what makes this story so hard to believe is that supposedly a former president and his wife living here lured these wondrous beasts on shore to touch their noses for good luck.  Considering this "horse" is considered one of the most dangerous animals in the wild we suggest the only one you attempt to do this to is the bronze statue honoring this legendary story.  Once you find it take a picture of your team touching it's nose and hopefully it will bring you good luck for the rest of your race!

- Team is at the specified bronze statue of the "horse" that honors this legendary story and it is clearly visible and identifiable

Checkpoint #2

This library, which was created in 1969, doesn't contain any books. It has a beautiful waterfront view, even though it doesn't have any windows.  You won't find visitors taking a nap here even though it has 93 beds.  What makes this unique library even more special is that it's collection gets completely removed and replaced multiple times a year.  Once you get to this library find the bed numbered "40" and take a picture of your team while that bed's number is clearly visible and legible in the background

- Team is at the specified library

- Bed number "40" is clearly visible and identifiable in the background

Checkpoint #3

Mixed in with all the government buildings and world-renowned monuments are businesses and organizations that are critical in helping this city run.  Anywhere along the way, find any sign for a business or organization with the letter "X" in the name and take a picture of your team while that sign is clearly visible and legible in the background.  You are looking for an actual sign, one that identifies a specific business or organization, not just any random road sign, digital image on someone's device, or poster that happens to have an "X" somewhere in it's verbiage.  It will likely be found on the actual business or organization, although not required.

- Any sign for a business, organization, or something similar, is visible in the background and it's name contains the letter "X"

Checkpoint #4

Get your team to this national museum that opened in 1993 and is dedicated to an industry whose first boss was Ben Franklin.  It's interesting that Ben was from Philly and this place is probably a Philatelist's favorite spot here in the city. Once inside find the dog who became a kind of mascot in the industry by traveling all over the world with its "product".  Most dogs have one or two tags on their collar to help identify them, but this courageous pup is covered in tags from around the world that locals placed on his jacket to mark locations he had visited. Once you've found this actual dog (not a toy, artistic statue, or promotional version), take a picture of your team while this 4-legged legend is clearly visible in the background.

Checkpoint #5

Located along the sidewalk outside of a theater that shares it's name with a very good former St Louis Rams quarterback is something that can also be found in California (where the Rams now call home).  But who wants to go to California when you can see lots of these right here in DC!  The people who "own" these have signed their name below each one.  Well, almost everyone.  Find the one that doesn't have a signature below it (likely because of their unique name) that is "owned" by someone who died this year.  Once you found it, take a video with your team and at least 2 strangers all standing near it and singing part of any song "owned" by this person.  To help your team get verified quickly be sure to show their part of the sidewalk and then show your team and the 2 strangers all singing.

- 1 video, team members visible

- At least 2 strangers are joining your team to complete the challenge and the group is on the sidewalk outside the specified theater

- Group is next to the specified part of sidewalk without a signature "owned" by the person who died this year

- Group is singing any part of a song "owned" by that person

Checkpoint #6

Yesterday marked the 97th anniversary of Congress passing the Volstead Act, which enforced Prohibition in this country until the passing of the 21st Amendment in 1933.  To honor those 14 long years of drinking way too much water take a video of any one of your team members successfully completing the Water Bottle Flip Challenge.  Basically flip any standard (16 ounces or so) bottle of water onto a solid surface at least waist high, and get it to land and remain upright.  The bottle can be filled with as much water as needed to improve your chances of landing it.  Everyone on your team can be attempting this challenge but only one needs to successfully complete it.

Checkpoint #7

Though it looks more like a Greek Doric temple, this memorial honors one of the most significant historical figures in our history. As a reference, it was also the spot where Forrest Gump claims “the happiest moment of my life” occurred. Because of what this historical figure meant to the local deaf community, it’s said that the sculptor in charge of the famous statue inside this memorial secretly carved the hands into a sign language pose to spell out the person's initials,  Once there, take a picture in front of the famous statue while your team members are signing the symbol for “love”

Checkpoint #8

This museum, which is a little over a year old, honors the work and legacy of one of the earliest women to work for the federal government. Born on Christmas Day, this woman throughout her life pushed for equal pay, long before it was considered the right thing to do. This building was her former office, which she used as a headquarters to locate over 22,000 missing men.  Once there, honor some of the organizations she founded by taking a picture of your team while each racer has at least one Band-Aid (or similar brand) bandage stuck to their face and the museum building is clearly visible in the background.  You do not need to go inside the museum to complete this challenge. Actually we discourage it, considering there is a gruesome amputation scheduled to occur inside later today.

- 1 picture, team members visible

- Team is at the specified museum and the building or signage is clearly visible and identifiable in the background

- Each team member has at least one Band-Aid (or similar brand) bandage stuck to their face

Checkpoint #9

We are a little over a week until Election Day, and each candidate knows the importance of the Battleground states!  Four of those critical states are shown in the image below.  To complete this Battleground Challenge, get to any TWO separate streets here in DC that share their names with any of the states shown below and take a picture of your team with the street sign in the background.  You DO NOT need to get to a place where two of these streets intersect, but rather just get to two of them anywhere along the way and take two separate pictures.  Submit both pictures at the same time once you've gotten to your second street so that HQ can verify both at once. Make sure the signs at each of the streets are clearly visible and legible in your photo so we can confirm it has the same name as one of these states.

- 2 separate pictures, team members visible

- In each of the two pictures the team is at a street that shares it's name with any of the four states shown below and the street sign is clearly visible and legible in the background
