Read each clue carefully. Complete each checkpoint accurately based on the description.

You must complete 9 out of the 10 checkpoints.  Checkpoint #10 is mandatory (cannot be your skip), and will need to be completed last, otherwise checkpoints can be completed in any order throughout the race.

Our HQ will review your submission almost instantly.  You should see your response very quickly but you do not need to wait around for it, especially if you are confident that you completed the checkpoint correctly.

Teams need to stay together throughout the race from one checkpoint to another and each team member (and their body markings when possible) should be visible in every submission unless otherwise noted.

If you have a race-related question during the race you can submit it through your Team Bonfyre.  We will respond quickly and provide you with the information you need as long as it doesn't impact your ability to solve the clue.

We have carefully scouted and vetted every checkpoint but cities are a constantly changing beast so if a checkpoint is inaccessible or you're not able to complete the requirements for any reason let us know right away and we will adjust the requirements if needed and verify accordingly.

Checkpoint #1

Started nearly 30 years ago just up the California coast, this sport (or training methodology) has grown dramatically in recent years.  This east side facility was one of it's original 35 locations, and is now one of over 10,000 currently found around the globe.  On the outside of this facility you'll find four prominent blue and gold letters, which are an acronym for this company's name.  On a typical day inside this facility you'd likely see a lot of intense WOD's, but thankfully you won't need to go inside to complete this challenge.  Get your team to the front of this location and take a video of your entire team completing 2 full Burpees within one 9 second video (the max length you can upload to Bonfyre).   If needed, you can submit two videos, each with half your team completing the challenge so that someone on your own team can film.  For quick verification be sure to show the four prominent letters along the front of the building in your video.

- 1 video, or multiple videos if needed, all team members visible

- Team is at the specified east side facility and it is identifiable

- Teams members all complete 2 full Burpees (as described in the picture below) within one 9-second max video

Checkpoint #2

This colorful sculpture can be found somewhere within the city park named for the Spanish "Xplorer" who became the 1st European to see the Pacific Ocean. The sculpture's name is a combination of it's female French artists first name and the type of creature it is, and contains the letters "RAIKNOTGI".  Get to this sculpture and take a fun picture of your entire team all riding this friendly beast. Your entire team should be on the sculpture in some way and not just standing next to it.

- 1 picture, all team members visible

- Team is at the specified sculpture and it is identifiable

- Team members are on the sculpture in some way, and not just standing beside it

Checkpoint #3

There are a few things you're likely to see when in San Diego (at least you better hope so) and they include people wearing something military-related, or large planes overhead.  For this challenge you can choose ONE of these two options, although without  a keen eye or the ability to take a perfectly timed selfie you may struggle to do either one.

Take a picture of your entire team with any stranger wearing something military related while at least one teammate is shaking their hand in recognition of their support for the military.  The stranger does not have to be someone who served in the Armed Forces but the item they're wearing will need to identify one of the Armed Forces or some kind of event the military was involved with (such as a veterans hat, etc).  So someone just wearing a random camouflage jacket would not be considered military-related unless it has something on it identifying the actual military. If needed, you can take one group picture with a teammate shaking their hand and another picture with a close-up of the item they're wearing so our HQ can verify it.

Take a picture of your entire team while a passenger or military plane is flying overhead.  With many nearby runways the plane should be at a reasonably low altitude as it's taking off or landing, and not just a small dot of a plane at cruising altitude that we can't identify as an actual plane.  The key to this challenge will be timing a selfie with your entire team visible and the moving plane in the same shot.

- 1 picture, all team members visible

- A stranger wearing something military-related is visible and their military item is identifiable

- At least one racer from your team is shaking the strangers hand in recognition of their military support

- 1 picture, all team members visible

- A passenger or military plane is flying overhead or in the background and is visible and identifiable

Checkpoint #4

The very long set of stairs shown in the video below (click play to view it) is found at the location where you'd find a lot of Starpower Talent this weekend.  Many of San Diego's active citizens use these stairs to stay in shape and today you will join them by climbing (and counting) them.

As a team, count or figure out the number of stairs it would take to get from the base of this long staircase to the very top.  Make sure you're on the downtown side of the building, at the specific set of stairs shown in the video. Be aware there are two separate sections of stairs as you travel from the bottom to the very top, so be sure to include both in your total number.  Once you think you have the correct number take a picture of your entire team at the bottom of the entire staircase (with the stairs clearly visible in the background), and submit the number in your Team Bonfyre comment thread.  As a kind gesture we will give you a 5 stair plus or minus margin of error (you're welcome).

You will only get 3 total guesses for the number, so if you get it wrong 2 times then your 3rd guess better be correct or this checkpoint becomes blocked and will need to be your skip!

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the base of the specified staircase, and the stairs are visible in the background

- Up to 3 submissions for the correct number (within 5 stairs plus/minus) of actual stairs from the base of the staircase to the very top. After the 3rd incorrect submission the checkpoint becomes blocked for your team and will need to be your skip

Checkpoint #5

The fun playground shown below is part of a beautiful 12-acre park located adjacent to the world's oldest active sailing ship.   Once there, get to the large sphere-like structure shown in the image below and take a picture of your entire team all touching any of the 3 highest blue colored spheres at the peak of the structure (red arrow is pointing to them in the picture below).  You'll need to work together as a team to all climb high enough on it that you can touch any of these 3 blue spheres. Capture enough in the picture that our HQ can verify you are all on the correct structure and not just touching one of the many other blue spheres around the playground. If there's no one around to take your picture then this checkpoint will really challenge your "selfie" taking skills.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified playground in the specified park

- Team members are all on the specified structure and touching any of the 3 highest blue spheres at the peak of the structure

Checkpoint #6

The difference between good urban racers and great ones sometimes comes down to how well you can use a map, so this challenge may separate you into one of those categories. Get your team to any intersection where two different street names that start with the same letter intersect, and then take a picture with your entire team and the two street signs.  If the street is labeled as a number (such as 9th) it won't count since it doesn't start with a letter, but if it's written on the sign as "Ninth" then you can use it wherever it crosses another "N" street.  If possible, try to get your team and the two street signs in one picture. We will also accept two separate pictures if we can verify it's the same intersection.

- 1 picture, all team members visible, or multiple pictures if needed

- Team is located at an intersection where two different street names that start with the same letter intersect

- Two street signs with different street names that start with the same letter are clearly visible and legible

Checkpoint #7

The water feature shown with a pin in the 3D rendering below is named for a woman who put a lot of effort into preserving the Spanish architecture in the large park where this popular fountain is located. On warm days you'll often find kids splashing in it, but today is your chance to do just that. Once there, take a video of your entire team all touching the sprayer located at the center of this fountain.  Because this sprayer pumps out water at a very high rate of speed be sure to touch the sprayer low enough that your hand is not near where the water is spraying out.

Because of the circumstances of this challenge you can either submit a video of your entire team all completing the challenge at the same time (while a kind stranger films) OR you can submit multiple videos with half your team doing it in each video (so someone on your own team can film and watch any valuables).

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible and completing the challenge at the same time

- Multiple videos, all team members clearly visible and completing the challenge separately

- Entire team must all touch the sprayer at the center of the specified fountain

Checkpoint #8

San Diego isn't often thought of as a movie locale compared to it's neighboring city to the North, but some of the most classic films were set right here.  The classic scene shown in the image below was filmed at a bar/restaurant whose name includes another city. Once there, take a video of your entire team and at least 2 strangers singing either of the two songs played in this bar during the movie, while the establishment is clearly visible and identifiable in the background. Hint: one of the songs was played on piano in the scene shown below and the other was played on a jukebox in the final scene of the movie.

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible

- At least 2 strangers are completing the challenge with your team

- The specified establishment is clearly visible and identifiable in the background

- Group is singing either of the 2 songs featured in this establishment during the movie

Checkpoint #9

It's too bad ATM's don't dispense quarters, because you'll need both to complete this challenge!   Find any ATM around the city, and once there take a video of any two people on your team completing the quarter spin challenge as seen in the video below (press play to watch it), while the ATM is clearly visible in the background.  If you are racing solo you will need to find a stranger to spin the quarter while you attempt to stop it with your finger.

Basically, have one teammate (or stranger if you're racing solo) flick a quarter so that it spins on a hard surface somewhere near an ATM (so that it's visible in the background at the end of your video).  Another teammate will then need to press down on the top of the spinning quarter with one finger so that it stops spinning and remains upright.  Remember that Bonfyre only allows up to a 9 second maximum video to be uploaded into your Team Bonfyre, but you can record a much longer video until you successfully complete the challenge and then just trim the video in the Bonfyre app to show the portion when you successfully complete the challenge and show the ATM.

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible

- Any ATM around the city is clearly visible in the background at some point in the video

- Either 2 teammates, or yourself and a stranger (if you're racing solo), complete the quarter spin challenge as shown in the video below and described in the clue above

Checkpoint #10

After you have completed 8 total checkpoints and had them verified by our Race HQ, then this checkpoint will be the final one you complete. The FINISH LINE for the entire race!

The name of the establishment you need to get to, whose address is along Market Street, is described using the picture clue below.

Once your team completes your 8th total checkpoint successfully our Race HQ will send you a quick and brief instruction on what your team needs to do at this location.  Once you complete the objective or upload the required submission at this location you will be finished the race and you will instantly receive your finish place and time!  Then if you'd like, you can relax with your team, the other fun racers, and recover from your adventure at this after race venue!

- All team members present at the Finish

- Team completes the requirement sent by Race HQ
