Read each clue carefully. Complete each checkpoint accurately based on the description.

You must complete 9 out of the 10 checkpoints.  Checkpoint #10 is mandatory (cannot be your skip), and will need to be completed last, otherwise checkpoints can be completed in any order throughout the race.

Our HQ will review your submission almost instantly.  You should see your response very quickly but you do not need to wait around for it, especially if you are confident that you completed the checkpoint correctly.

Teams need to stay together throughout the race from one checkpoint to another and each team member (and their body markings when possible) should be visible in every submission unless otherwise noted.

If you have a race-related question during the race you can submit it through your Team Bonfyre.  We will respond quickly and provide you with the information you need as long as it doesn't impact your ability to solve the clue.

We have carefully scouted and vetted every checkpoint but cities are a constantly changing beast so if a checkpoint is inaccessible or you're not able to complete the requirements for any reason let us know right away and we will adjust the requirements if needed and verify accordingly.

Checkpoint #1

Most landmarks in this city are prominently located, but not this one.  Often referred to as the "Key of Keys" this rock's history is older than this country and was eventually used in making the original land survey of this city.  What was once a large boulder is now a small rock (after being used to build parts of the White House and Capitol) and is preserved inside a circular well-like monument.  Legend has it that a soldier named George Washington was in the army of the General this rock is named for, and he would camp along the hill nearby.  While camping he was so impressed with the beauty of this site that it led him to choose this area as the location of the National Capital later in life.

Once you get to this monument take a video of your entire team log-rolling down the grassy hill this monument stands atop.  Each member will need to do at least 5 rotations as you roll down the hill in order for it to count (we want to make sure you're good and dizzy as you get up to run to your next checkpoint).  Since this location is not in a very populated area you can submit two videos, with half your team completing the challenge in each video so that someone on your own team can film. Remember the max length of video you can upload to Bonfyre is 9 seconds so you'll need to be rolling fairly quickly.

- 1 video, or multiple videos if needed, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified monument atop the grassy hill and it is clearly visible

- Each team member is log rolling down the grassy hill and does at least 5 rotations

Checkpoint #2

Rogers and Hammerstein named their second musical after this type of attraction.  The one you're looking for is along a very popular section of the city, and had an important role in the civil rights movement.  This machine was once located in an amusement park in Maryland and that park, like many at the time, was whites-only. After years of tenacious protests, the first African American family to be allowed into the park were named the Langleys, and the first attraction their wide-eyed toddler named Sharon chose to ride was this one.

To honor this machines role in history, and celebrate the diversity of everyone's inner-child, take a video of your entire team all riding this attraction, while it's moving.  Be aware that completing this checkpoint will cost $3 per person.

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified attraction

- The attraction is moving (operating) during your video

Checkpoint #3

This time of year is typically a baseball fans favorite.  But since the Nats won't be playing in October, this is your chance to show them how running to home base is supposed to look.   Get your team to any regulation baseball or softball field (not a pro stadium) and take a video of your entire team running from 3rd base to home plate. If there is a baseball game being played on the field you can run parallel to the base path (still from 3rd to home) but somewhere off the field to make sure you're not interfering with any game or spectators.

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible

- Your team is at any regulation baseball or softball field (not a pro stadium)

- Team members run from 3rd base to home plate on the field, or if a game is being played you can run the same distance parallel to the base path somewhere off the field

Checkpoint #4

Located southwest of the only destination served by 5 Metrolines, this elliptical park is named for an African American known for almanacs and helping survey the borders of the original District of Columbia.  Once there, get to the fountain shown below and take a picture of your entire team on top of the dark grey cone structure which is the base of the fountain (as shown by the red arrow below).  Your team members should be either sitting, standing, or crouching on top of the cone structure, and not just standing next to it and touching it.  If the surface is wet it will be very slippery so be careful and do not jump from one surface to another!

Because of the circumstances of this challenge you can submit either one picture with your entire team all completing the challenge at the same time OR you can submit multiple pictures with half your team doing it in each picture (so someone on your own team can take the picture and watch any valuables).

- 1 picture, or multiple pictures if needed, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified fountain in the specified memorial park

- Team members are on top of the grey cone base of the fountain

Checkpoint #5

Made partly of gneiss (and other similar materials) it still holds the record for tallest structure of it's kind, so it should be easy to find.  But in order to see this structure after sunset it requires a lot of lights.  Get your team to this location and count the number of embedded spotlights immediately surrounding the structure's base.  There are lots of other spotlights illuminating this general area but you only need to count the ones that surround the actual structure, located within a few feet of it's base.

Once you think you have the correct number take a picture of your entire team with the large structure in the background, and submit the number in your Team Bonfyre comment thread.  As a kind gesture we will give you a one light plus or minus margin of error (you're welcome).

You will only get 3 total guesses for the number, so if you get it wrong 2 times then your 3rd guess better be correct or this checkpoint becomes blocked and will need to be your skip!

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified structure and it is clearly visible and identifiable in the background

- Up to 3 submissions for the correct number (within one light plus/minus) of embedded spotlights surrounding the immediate base of the structure.  After the 3rd incorrect submission the checkpoint becomes blocked for your team and will need to be your skip

Checkpoint #6

This weekend the culinary festival in town called Taste Of DC will give attendees the chance to spice up their taste buds.  You'll get that same chance, except it will unfortunately not taste as good.  You can complete this challenge anywhere around the city.  Take a video of at least HALF your team members consuming a spoon-full of any flavor hot sauce.  If possible have the video include your team members pouring the sauce from the bottle onto the spoon (so we can verify it's not some other condiment) and then consuming the entire spoon-full all within the 9 second maximum video length that can be uploaded to Bonfyre.  Please note that at least half of your team members need to complete this challenge, but not everyone, so be sure to choose those on your team that think they can handle some spice.  If at least half your team does not want to complete it, or can't complete it due to dietary restrictions, then this checkpoint will need to be your skip.

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible

- At least half of your team members consume a spoon-full of any flavor hot sauce

Checkpoint #7

With Autumn quickly setting in, this challenge will give you one last chance to hold onto Summer.  These courts, which don't have a judge or jury, are located northwest of the spot where Forrest Gump claims "the happiest moment of my life" occurred.  It is however a place you'd likely find Misty May.  Once there, take a picture of your entire team with your shoes off and your feet all buried in the sand.  Make sure the picture isn't just a close-up of feet.  We need to be able to see each team member, their feet buried in sand, and verify you're at the correct location.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Your team is at the specified courts

- Each team members feet are fully buried in sand

Checkpoint #8

The character who wore these in the classic 1939 movie had the last name of Gale, which is ironic given the strong wind that played a prominent role in her adventure.  Her famous footwear is on display somewhere here in the city and you need to find it.  Maybe, like her, you'll also find some unique friends along the way that will help you on your journey.  To find these iconic wardrobe items it won't cost any money but you will need to go through a quick security check upon entering the building.  Once you get to the display take a picture of your entire team while the famous footwear are clearly visible in the background.

Be aware that selfie sticks can't be used at this checkpoint.  Please don't run through the building or disrupt any other visitor's experience.

- 1 picture, all team members visible

- Team is at the specified display and the famous footwear are clearly visible and identifiable in the background

Checkpoint #9

With over 350 stations and 3000 bikes in the area, Capital Bikeshare is helping to make this one of the best biking cities in the country.  With all those red bikes around the city this challenge may come down to timing and luck.  Take a picture of your entire team while any TWO red Capital Bikeshare bikes are being ridden by strangers in the background.  Both bikes must be the red Capital Bikeshare kind, and both bikes must be actively getting ridden by two strangers (not just standing next to them or sitting on them).  Capturing a picture of your whole team and both Bikeshare riders before they zoom out of view may test your selfie skills!

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Two red Capital Bikeshare bikes are actively being ridden by strangers in the background
