Read each clue carefully. Complete each checkpoint accurately based on the description.

You must complete 9 out of the 10 checkpoints.  Checkpoint #10 is mandatory (cannot be your skip), and will need to be completed last, otherwise checkpoints can be completed in any order throughout the race.

Our HQ will review your submission almost instantly.  You should see your response very quickly but you do not need to wait around for it, especially if you are confident that you completed the checkpoint correctly.

Teams need to stay together throughout the race from one checkpoint to another and each team member (and their body markings when possible) should be visible in every submission unless otherwise noted.

If you have a race-related question during the race you can submit it through your Team Bonfyre.  We will respond quickly and provide you with the information you need as long as it doesn't impact your ability to solve the clue.

We have carefully scouted and vetted every checkpoint but cities are a constantly changing beast so if a checkpoint is inaccessible or you're not able to complete the requirements for any reason let us know right away and we will adjust the requirements if needed and verify accordingly.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

Checkpoint #1

Although it's name doesn't accurately portray what this building is currently used for,  it's reputed to be the oldest structure in the U.S. to be used as a bar.  It escaped two great fires at the turn of the 19th Century thanks to its slate roof and is believed to have been used as a base for a smuggling operation by the brothers whose name still remains in the business.  Since it's such a classic bar, you'll need to complete a classic bar trick on-site.  Once you arrive head inside and take a video of any member of your team successfully landing a quarter into an empty glass by bouncing it off the surface the glass is resting on (like the bar game called "Quarters").  Your entire team can be trying to complete it but we just need to see one successful attempt.  Be sure to show enough of the bar and your team in the video so that we don't have to require you to take a separate picture at that location to verify it's the correct spot. The bar has said they will provide an empty glass for the challenge, but your team should not expect them to have a quarter so plan on finding one along the way and bringing it. For an example of what you'll need to do you can watch the video below (click on the Play button).

Be aware that the maximum length video you can submit via Bonfyre is 9-seconds but you can film a longer video using the app or your normal camera as your team attempts the challenge and then trim it in the app just before submitting it in order to show the part where you complete it successfully and show the bar and your team.  To record a continuous video within the app you (or a stranger filming you) will need to hold down the record button.

- 1 video, all team members visible if possible

- Team is at the specified historic bar and it is identifiable in the background

- Any team member successfully lands a quarter in a glass by bouncing it off of the surface the glass is sitting on (as demonstrated in the video below)

Checkpoint #2

Built entirely out of materials found in the aftermath of Katrina, this powerful memorial sculpture looks more like the scene that led to the demise of the Wicked Witch of the East.  The artist, whose initials are "SH" unveiled this artwork on the 4th anniversary of the storm. It was installed in an appropriate location, across from one of the places where so many refugees were displaced following the storm.  Once you've found it, take a picture of your entire team while the memorial sculpture is clearly visible and identifiable in the background.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified memorial sculpture and it is clearly visible and identifiable in the background

Checkpoint #3

One of the more powerful messages coming out of France in the wake of the recent attacks is "l'amour gagne toujours".   It's being said by victims, written on sidewalks by locals, and shared on social media.  This challenge will give you a chance to stand united with New Orlean's influential city across the pond and spread the message here in the States.  Translate the message to English and then take a video of your team saying it (in English) as you give a store-quality flower to anyone on a horse-drawn carriage ride around the city.  The person on the carriage needs to be on an actual ride around the city.  It shouldn't just be given to a carriage driver standing next to their carriage while it's parked and empty. We recommend waiting for the carriage to stop at an intersection or somewhere along the tour, but if you give it to them while it's moving be sure not to startle the horse or get too close to any of the carriage's moving parts.

The flower can be purchased anywhere around the city but it needs to be store-quality (aka bought in a store or from a street vendor, not just a weed you picked along the way).

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible

- Team gives a store-quality flower to anyone on a horse-drawn carriage ride

- Team tells the passenger the English translation of "l'amour gagne toujours"

Checkpoint #4

This educational riverfront facility, which opened in 1990, didn't suffer much initial damage from Katrina even though it had 500,000 gallons of water inside.  However, after losing power for multiple days there was a loss of life of nearly 10,000 inside this building.  That may seem shocking, but don't worry, they replaced them and the public probably wouldn't notice a difference.  At the southern end of this building is a plaza of memorial bricks.  Once there, find the one brick with the inscription "Are We Having Fun Yet?" and take a picture of your entire team making your most fun and goofy facial expressions while that brick is clearly visible and legible behind you.  You might have to get up-close and personal with that brick, or you can submit a separate close-up picture of the brick so we can verify you found the right one.

- 1 picture, or multiple pictures if needed, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified memorial brick plaza, and the brick with the inscription "Are We Having Fun Yet?" is visible and legible

- Team members are making a fun or goofy facial expression

Checkpoint #5

The address of this French Quarter antique store in Roman Numerals would be "DCXXX".  Once there, slowly and carefully head upstairs to the Royal Gallery where you'll find an exhibit featuring 40 pieces of art that were once on the front cover of the magazine with the initials "T.S.E.P".  This magazine has been in circulation for nearly 300 years (tracing it's roots to Ben Franklin) and it's most memorable weekly covers tended to capture the spirit of American culture through the perspective of a popular classic artist.  Once you get to the exhibit take a picture with your entire team posing exactly like any ONE of the magazine covers on display. Try to choose one of the covers that has an equal number of subjects in the artwork as racers on your team so that you can create as accurate a pose as possible.  Feel free to recruit some strangers in the store if you're short a few subjects, or take two pictures with part of your team posing in front of one cover and the rest of your team posing in front of a different one.

This store is filled with expensive and rare antiques so please be respectful in the store and be kind to any staff or shoppers.  Walk slowly, and be mindful of any bags you're carrying so that they don't bump into any merchandise!

- 1 picture, or multiple pictures if desired, all team members clearly visible

- Team is at the specified exhibit inside the specified French Quarter antique store

- Team members are posing like the subjects featured in any ONE of the magazine covers on display in the exhibit and it is clearly visible and identifiable in the background

Checkpoint #6

This challenge will likely be the easiest one to complete in a city where Mardi Gras season seems to last 12 months of the year!  Take a picture of your entire team and AT LEAST TWO STRANGERS each wearing a Mardi Gras style mask on your face and multiple strings of beads around your neck.  This challenge can be completed anywhere around the city but be careful with the merchandise if you don't plan on buying it.

- 1 picture, all team members clearly visible

- At least 2 strangers are completing the challenge with your team

- Each person in the picture is wearing a separate Mardi Gras style mask and at least one string of beads around their neck

Checkpoint #7

Originally founded in 2000 under a different name, this museum has now been designated by Congress as the national museum of it's kind.  Often rated as one of the top tourist destinations in New Orleans, there is even an exhibit that features a short film narrated by Tom Hanks (likely because one of his most famous movie roles was focused around this event).  Once there, find either of the two one-person concrete shelters located outside of the building that would have protected someone during that event.  Then take a video of your entire team doing 4 push-ups within one continuous video (to honor the toughness of those that were a part of that event) while either of those shelters are visible and identifiable in the background.

Be aware that the maximum length video you can submit via Bonfyre is 9-seconds so you'll need to complete your push-ups within that timeframe.  To record a continuous video within the app you (or a stranger filming you) will need to hold down the record button. You can also record a longer video through your normal camera tool and then trim it down within the app to a 9-second clip before submitting it.

- 1 video, all team members clearly visible if possible

- Team is at specified museum and either of the one-person concrete shelters located outside of the museum are visible and identifiable in the background

- Team members complete 4 push-ups within one continuous 9-second max video

Checkpoint #8

For much of the early history of this city, slaves would gather at this location on Sundays (their day off) to dance, create music, and trade goods.  This place is remembered by many for being the greatest influence on the culture and music of New Orleans and the birthplace of Jazz.  Get to the heart of this open space and find the design on the plaza that includes 24 brown circular grates surrounding one central grate. Then take a video of any racer on your team standing on one of the 24 brown grates and throwing an OPEN and FULL bottle of water to someone standing on the center grate.  That person needs to catch the bottle without dropping it and then toss it back to the initial racer on the brown grate and they need to catch it without dropping it.  To receive verification from HQ be sure to only submit successful attempts where the bottle is caught by both people within one continuous video, without any drops!

At least two people will need to be involved in this challenge but all team members should be visible and cheering them on.  If you are racing solo you'll need to recruit another nearby racer or a stranger.

The bottle of water needs to be a standard plastic 16 ounce bottle, or something close to it.  The lid should be removed so that you are tossing an OPEN and FULL bottle of water.  If you lose a lot of the water from the bottle after multiple unsuccessful attempts you can refill it in the large pond just north of this location, although do not drink the water from there!

- 1 continuous video, all team members visible if possible

- Team is at the specified historic open space

- While standing on any of the 24 brown circular grates, one racer tosses an OPEN and FULL bottle of water to someone standing on the center grate and that person successfully catches it without dropping it

- The person standing on the center grate then tosses the bottle back to the initial thrower on the brown grate who catches it without dropping it

Checkpoint #9

The Saints haven't had the best start to their season so they need all the support and energy they can get from their Who Dat Nation!  If you didn't appreciate how coordinated, quick-minded, and passionate football players are, this challenge may change your mind.  Get your team onto any form of public transit and divide yourselves up into two roles.  Then take a video of your team loudly doing the Saints huddle chant as heard in the video below (click Play to hear it and learn the lyrics) while the public transit you're on is moving.  Half your team should take the role recited by "Brees" in the video, and the other half should take the portion that the "Team" recites in the chant.  If you are racing solo you'll need to recruit a stranger to perform it with you.  Try to recite it with a similar cadence and tempo as the Saints do so that you can get all of it in within one video clip.  It may help to write the lyrics down ahead of time and practice it along the way before you are on a moving form of public transit and have to do it for real.  It may even psych your own team up as you're racing towards the finish!

- 1 video, all team members visible if possible

- Team is on any form of public transit and it is moving during the video

- The team recites the two-part Saints Huddle chant as demonstrated in the video below

Checkpoint #10
